Book Chat: What have you been reading?

Kia Ora from New Zealand! I have just arrived in a rainy Franz Joseph Glacier and it is the perfect time to sit down and catch up with you all! One of the best parts of being on holiday is all the reading time! I am on tour so there is plenty of bus travel. So far I have read five ebooks and one manuscript. Reading on the iPad is so easy and convenient but I am missing my books! I have been here a week today and I have already managed to find 4 bookstores – amazingly I haven’t bought a single book… Yet. Can I make it three weeks without caving?

I have mainly been reading YA on this trip and so far I have been really disappointed with the stories. I have read The Selection by Kiera Cass, Disruption by Jessica Shirvington, Throne of Glass by Sarah Maas, The Intern by Gabrielle Tozer and Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. Their storylines are weak and it makes you wonder what makes them so popular… There are so many great YA stories that should do better than they currently do!

Next up in the reading pile is a Kate Forsyth, a Fiona McIntosh and Garth Nix. I can’t wait!

Over to you – what have you been reading?

  1. So good to hear from you I was wondering where you may be. Haven’t been reading much the past few weeks which is the opposite of what I usually do this time of year. Mainly magazines. Great Ocean, Limelight, The Summer edition of The Monthly and reading blogs on WordPress and documents as part of research for my book.

Travel safe and enjoy that magnificent country that you are visiting.

    • Hi Patrick, I have disappeared recently! It has been an incredibly busy time for me and I have struggled to find time to write! All reading is good reading no matter what form it comes in!

  2. I have had a feast of reading over the summer break. Loved everything. I have just finished the second book in the Red Ruby triology by Kerstin Gier, really enjoying the series so far. For something completely different I have just started Stasiland for our book club. Still getting into it, I have to say. Enjoy NZ going to the South Island in March. Can’t wait.

    • Hi Sandra, I have seen the Kerstin Gier trilogy on Instagram – would I be able to borrow book one from you? I have had Stasiland in my reading pile for so long. I read All That I Am and didn’t think that it lived up to the hype… but I have read so many historical fiction books from that time that I find it hard to find anything original.

The South Island is absolutely incredible! We are leaving tomorrow for the North Island and I am very sad to be leaving. Queenstown is incredible – I hope you have your adventurous pants packed! I had the best time!

  3. I have been reading a lot lately and it’s all been young adult even though I’m 22! Oh well! My favorite book for the month of January was nine minutes by Beth Flynn. It is only available on the kindle app but if you have a kindle it’s definitely worth the read.
