Welcome to thebookkat!
My name is Katherine and I love books! So much so that I would love to shout it from the rooftops for the whole world to hear! I am lucky enough to be a part of an industry and a world that I am so passionate about. Working, living and breathing in the world of books has given me the chance to enjoy and share my passion. It is my hope that I can give a little back and inspire others on their own reading journey.
For example, two days ago I was in a beautiful independent bookstore and a librarian from the local high school was looking for some inspiration. Not being able to help myself, I asked her if I could help her… even though I didn’t work in the store. To my delight, she bought every single one of the twelve or so books I recommended! It was such a rewarding moment… talking about books and sharing them is my favourite thing to do!
It is the one thing I miss most about working in a bookstore. I would really enjoy when a customer would come into the store looking for some recommendations for either themselves or for a gift, and the feeling of satisfaction of being able to find something that suited exactly what they were looking for! Around the time I finished at the bookstore, I started a small book club, so that I could continue the conversation. Each month we share what we have been reading and it is a great way to find new authors and try things that you might not have previously done so. It can be quite challenging to read something outside your comfort zone however it is usually equally as rewarding.
This love of sharing is what lead to the beginning of thebookkat, a little project I started on Instagram where I began photographing the books I was reading (or had previously read) in the hope that someone would see it, want to read it, and go out and try it. I would love to expand on that conversation – from the bookstore to book club – to get more people included, connected and talking about books. Via three platforms – this blog, Facebook and Instagram – I am going to try and get the conversation started. I would love for it to work both ways. I am going to share my views but I would love for you, the reader, to share you views, your ideas and your recommendations with me. I am always on the look out for new things to try.
I look forward to hearing from you!
